Management of the TEK Co-operative Credit Union on Friday, 9th June 2023 paid a working visit to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Obuasi campus to interact with Junior and Senior Staff as well as Senior Members of the campus about the Tek Credit Union.
According to the General Manager, Mrs. Mercy Opare Boakye, the visit was to introduce staff of the KNUST Obuasi Campus to the various financial services and benefits offered by the Union. She highlighted that the Union was established in 1970 and became affiliated with the Mother Union, Ghana Cooperative Credit Union Association (CUA), in 1972. Since its establishment, the Union has been committed to providing financial services to their members in the University community and beyond. Adding that their objectives are to promote thrift, provide loans and offer quality financial services to its members. She said that to become a member, individuals can purchase a membership form at a cost of 20 Ghana Cedis, and make a minimum saving of 20 Ghana Cedis on a monthly basis and after six months of membership, they become eligible to apply for a loan.
She, therefore, encouraged the staff to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them for effective financial management.
The Finance Manager, Mr Johnson Opoku takes the staff through various packages the union offers, which includes Savings Accounts, Fixed/Term Deposit, Savings Account, Current Account, Loans, Students Hostel among others. Mr. Opoku emphasized the importance of joining the Union to gain the benefits of acquiring a loan, highlighting the Union's flexible loan policy as compared to other financial institutions.
During the visit, the former Chairman of the Union, Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, shared his personal experiences as a member of the Union. He recounted the numerous advantages he had gained from being a member and urged the staff to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
To facilitate the membership process, the Customer Service Officer, Mrs. Sefah Christian, collected details from interested applicants and distributed membership forms. Staff also seized the opportunity to ask questions and relay the challenges they faced as members for clarification.
